Best of 2009: Car Ride

The ongoing Gwen Bell “Best of 2009″ idea continues with: Car ride. What did you see? How did it smell? Did you eat anything as you drove there? Who were you with?

The best car ride I had this year was the one returning home from Flagstaff, having returned from Albuquerque.  In order to keep The Beau up, I had to keep myself up too, so we jammed to Motorhead and AC/DC all the way home. After traveling all day and night across the state, we drove from Flag and got home at about midnight. It was the best homecoming. Nice and still, the quiet of the middle of the night. However, there was one creature that wouldn’t stay still for quite some time: little Tortilla.

He was so excited when we got home I thought his heart was going to burst. It made the car ride doubly worth it.

Best of 2009: Shop

The ongoing Gwen Bell “Best of 2009″ idea continues with: Shop. Online or offline, where did you spend most of your mad money this year?

The shop I always spend the most money at is Savers. As the years pass it gets harder to find insanely cheap deals (i.e. my sailboat shirt I got for 75 cents), but it is still a brilliant place to find whole outfits for really cheap. I am all about the hunt, and this thrift shop fills that need. I get to go through aisle after aisle until I find something that speaks to me. It’s like that tchotcke/dress/rainbow suspenders was waiting just for me.

Take Five Friday: My Mom Edition

December 18, 2009 1 comment

Today is my mother’s birthday so in honor of her, I thought I would list the 5 Most Awesome Things She has Done in the Last Year:

5. Hiked the Grand Canyon. She’s turning into a hiking machine. I wouldn’t even be able to hike the Canyon and she could probably skip outta there.

4. Took care of my sister-in-law out of the hospital. When she broke her neck, she needed a LOT of care. My mom stepped in and had her and my sister stay at her house for almost two months while she recuperated. It takes a lot of patience to deal with that.

3. Got said sister in law a boob cake for her birthday. No, it’s even more awesome than you’re thinking.

2. Had a “Punch Drunk Love” Party in honor of her and my stepdad’s 10th anniversary. Every had boxing names, played wii boxing, got hammered, and i think at one point did the Thriller dance. It was magical.

1. #1 always, she’s an ear, a shoulder and so much more. She’s a badass mom in every sense of the word. I wouldn’t trade her for anything. These are only the highlights of the year.

Happy Birthday, Margarita Mama.

Best of 2009: Word or Phrase

The ongoing Gwen Bell “Best of 2009″ idea continues with: Word or phrase. A word that encapsulates your year. “2009 was _____.”

My word or phrase for the year is “Well, that was out of left field.”

There have been a LOT, and I mean a lot of things that have totally thrown me into mini-backflips this year. Some have been trying (thinking about loved ones lost), some have been a laugh riot (renewing some brilliant friendships) and some have just been, well, really far out (someone pulling a Rob Gordon on me).

All in all it was an amazing year, but I am excited to move on to 2010. Numerology wise, it will be an odd number year, which is always my favorite. I can’t wait to see what it holds for me!

Best of 2009: Tea

The ongoing Gwen Bell “Best of 2009″ idea continues with: Tea of the year. I can taste my favorite tea right now. What’s yours?

mine is definitely black tea.

This is actually black tea infused vodka, which could possibly yummier than regular black tea and I could rationalize as healthy. credit and kudos

I think I like black tea best because I use the power of suggestion to feel my body recuperating and healing when I drink this.

I don’t drink iced tea, so this is the only time of year I get to drink gallons of tea.

Best of 2009: Packaging

Best packaging. Did your headphones come in a sweet case? See a bottle of tea in another country that stood off the shelves?

The best packaging I have found this year is an Evian present my mom gave me and my sister for housewarming presents. I know it’s from 2008, but she said she had been saving them for a time when they wouldn’t get broken, so she brought them once the boxes had been moved. I love the wintry designs, yet it’s lacy enough it could be used in a year-round window setting.
