I need an extremely good teacher to show me how to make such an awesome crown. For now, I will have to celebrate my May Day with a makeshift felt crown, a road trip north and a good book.

I thought I’d share one of my favorite photos of me from when I was younger. I like to call it 80s Plastic Fantastic. Apparently I am wearing Palm Springs resort-casual clothes, with my Hawaiian print shorts and white socks/shoes. A few birthdays ago, a friend of my mom’s gave me the bracelet below and brought back memories of the above necklace and the fabulous jangling it made.

I just didn’t want to leave anyone who reads this hanging any longer.

I might start writing on here again. I may start a new blog, I may not.

But I wanted to thank the people that did read it, and did enjoy it. You guys were just swell.

I know that with any sort of creative endeavors and minds, it comes in waves, so I can always trust in the wave finding its way back to me.
But for now, I will just collect winter photos, rake some leaves into a pile and sit on top of it with hot cocoa, waiting for the wave to come back.

The first, and, most popular, is that the saying originated from the old flintlock rifle. A flint would strike a plate, and the spark created would ignite gunpowder in a pan. This explosion would ignite the charge in the rifle, and “bang” the bullet would be expelled. It would appear as though this exercise was not always successful. The powder in the pan would “flash”, but not ignite the powder in the rifle. The expectation was there, nothing happened, therefore “a flash in the pan”
The second refers to mining, specifically gold mining. Gold miners in days of old would have a pan would swish water and gravel around in it, trying to separate the gold from the sand. “A flash in the pan” was what appeared to be gold, but on closer investigation turned out to be nothing of value. Again, an expectation that came to nothing.

So, let’s see what happened ’round here this week:

-made some banana espresso chocolate chip muffins with a recipe from sweet pea’s kitchen. It’s amazing I managed to get this one photo. I really should stop mentioning I baked things if I can’t stop shoveling said treats into my mouth to take a proper picture.

-is it just The Beau & me that think the pumpkin candy corn tastes better than the rest?

-the bushes all around our place have been blooming since it cooled down considerably, and I am so glad I captured them when I did because the next day, all the flowers fell off.

-had an impromptu pumpkin-carve with my mom. We decided to brave a Martha Stewart idea and do a reverse carve. You carve so that the design is like a 3-d relief of an image, and the shell around it is carved down so the light will show through. Well, Martha can explain it better than I can.

-The Beau and I are going to a Halloween party on Saturday and I am so excited! I haven’t been to an honest to goodness Halloween party in AGES, so I wanted to do it right. The above photo is my inspiration. Bwahaha!

-Sunday is the Cupcake Love-In and we are going for the 2nd year in a row. So stoked that I am going to try and abstain from snacks and desserts the next couple days *starts doing jumping jacks*
