Best of 2009: Social Web Moment

The ongoing “Best of 2009″ idea continues with: Social web moment. Did you meet someone you used to only know from her blog? Did you discover Twitter?

Being featured in the Republic and on azcentral.com was pretty much the highlight of my social web year.

I started a photoblog of the city I love so much Glendale, AZ because I wanted to people who were thinking about visiting Phoenix to know they didn’t have to just stay in Phoenix to enjoy the valley.

I get very intimidated by the people with their fancy cameras and hours upon hours of free time to be able to post daily. I love when I am able to post pictures and get messages from all over the States (and even Paris!), commenting on how they remember that part of Glendale, or have a story to share. It’s beyond amazing.

I didn’t do it to try to garner press (even though i work for the city), I just love the town and think so many more people could too if they just knew about it.

But a reporter found it and wanted to interview me. Very cool.

I guess the other cool social web thing was Facebook. I had held off on FB for a LONG time because I didn’t want to deal with all that jazz. I had a Twitter account before a FB! But when I signed up, I was so incredibly pleased with how many of my good friends i could keep in touch with ease. I am definitely thankful for that aspect. I hate all the other stupid things about it (the time-suck, Farmville, people that don’t like me trying to friend me), but those are pretty easy to ignore.
