Day 20 – Your Favorite Romantic Film

Punch Drunk Love

I still remember vividly how seeing this movie in the theater blew me away. I went with a couple friends and after I had to just sit there for a minute and figure out how to breathe again. It made me so emotional it broke my heart. I think my favorite parts were:

1) the Jon Brion musical interludes with the colors and

2) When Barry and Lena trade passionate pillow talk that I could completely relate to:

Barry: I’m lookin’ at your face and I just wanna smash it. I just wanna fuckin’ smash it with a sledgehammer and squeeze it. You’re so pretty.
Lena: I want to chew your face, and I want to scoop out your eyes and I want to eat them and chew them and suck on them.
[pause]
Barry: OK. This is funny. This is nice.
